The exterior architecture and interior finishing of Will Fox’s Barber Shop is reminiscent of a bygone era and is one of the few remaining Edwardian establishments in Loughton High Road. The origins of the shop are not fully known, but it is thought to have been designed for Essex County Council in 1902 when it became the local authority responsible for education. Latterly, the shop became a retail outlet and milk depot called the Crystalbrook Jersey Dairy. The courtyard of the shop still has the remnants of its dairy past and one can imagine the horse drawn carts stocking up in the yard before going about their business. The interior of the shop boasts two beautiful original glazed archways that provide excellent lighting and a particularly nostalgic ambiance to the establishment.
